MACC report against DCM Jabu, deputy minister and MP

Recent online disclosures of Taib Mahmud's lead ministers being awarded government contracts in a bid to keep them 'loyal' have resulted in a MACC report.

KUCHING: Sarawak PKR’s Youth wing has lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) against federal level deputy minister Fadillah Yusof, Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu Numpang and an MP for allegedly enriching themselves at the expense of the people.

Fadillah is the Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, while the MP concerned in Hulu Rajang parliamentarian Billy Abit Joo.

State PKR Youth chief Ahmad Najib lodged the report on behalf of his wing following online revelations of contracts worth millions which were awarded to the three public figures.

“The allegations are very serious, and the MACC must conduct an immediate investigation,” Ahmad said, adding that he expects MACC to get it touch with him soon to record his statement.

The MACC report was made following news reports of ‘power abuse’ on online investigative portal Sarawak Report.

The report alleged that all three elected representatives had allegedly accumulated extravagant wealth which contrasted with the poverty in their own respective constituencies.

It pointed out that Abit Joo was the “owner” of Wargana Consortium which the Sarawak government had touted as a “people’s cooperative”.

“This was the point of Wargana Consortium, which Awang Tengah alleged was owned by the people of Bakun, but which turns out to be owned by MP Billy Abit Joo and his business cronies, along with one share each for local headmen,” said the report.

Abit Joo had also allegedly set up a company, Sarabrand Sdn Bhd, to take on more state contracts. Sarabrand has thus far received contracts worth RM35 million handed out by Chief Minister Taib Mahmud under the guise of ‘bringing development to the people’.

Likewise Jabu has amassed a vast number of plantations, which he has put into the hands of his family. Much of these properties are native customary land, allegedly snatched from his constituents in Betong.

Among the list of companies that Jabu is linked to include private limited companies Durafarm, KACC construction, Durayield, Sarako (timber company), Jarenang Sdn Bhd (timber company), Obyu Holdings, Utahol (plantation), Herba Aromatics (plantation), Tintingmas (construction) and Javel Engineering.

Fadillah’s family members also allegedly have shares in some of these companies.
